In
the eighties America learned that its okay
to be an American and to be greedy. Materialism
and self-indulgence characterized the atmosphere
of the 1980's as yuppie culture emerged,
and for an elite few value was judged in
houses, cars, and gadgets. President Ronald
Reagan's economic policies left countless
autoworkers and farmers searching for jobs.
The personal computer age began in the early
80's when two guys named Steve introduced
the Apple Computer to the world. Sadly,
in 1980, a crazed gunman murdered John Lennon.
In 1984 the music video became a staple
in popular culture when MTV hit the airwaves.
In 1986 tragedy struck when the space shuttle
Challenger exploded shortly after take-off
killing all seven crewmembers including
a schoolteacher. Headway in international
relations occurred in 1989 when out of the
blue the Cold War ended with the collapse
of the Soviet Union and the fall of the
Berlin Wall.
Where were you when the Challenger
exploded?
